Free Solo

Rewatched again a few years after watching it for the first time, inspired by having recently listened to Alex Honnold’s interview on Tim Ferriss’ podcast. My hands got just as sweaty this time!

It’s a great documentary; it feels very honest. I feel it could easily fall into platitudes about humans conquering Nature, and while there is a bit of that feeling sometimes (hard to avoid when seeing shots of Alex climbing El Cap, minuscule in comparison) it also does not shy away from portraying Alex’s flaws, nor from discussing how cruel and selfish soloing can be.
